If you were approved for a federal tax extension, then the State of North Dakota will automatically grant you a six month tax extension. If you need to make a state tax payment, you'll need to submit North Dakota Payment Voucher Form 400-EXT (PDF).

Filing for a North Dakota tax extension does not grant you extra time to pay any tax balance due. Your balance must be paid by April 15 to avoid possible penalties.

If you already received an approval notification from ExpressExtension, and you don't need to make a tax payment, then you're all done.

The State of North Dakota will automatically grant your business a 6 month tax extension (5 months for partnerships and LLCs) if you have successfully filed for a federal extension (IRS Form 7004). However, you will need to submit North Dakota payment voucher (choices listed below) form if you need to make a state tax payment.

If your business does not need to make a state tax payment and has received an approval notification from ExpressExtension, there’s nothing more to do. Corporations must attach a copy of the federal extension form with their state tax return when filed.

Filing for a North Dakota tax extension will not provide you with additional time to pay any tax balance due, which must be paid by your original filing deadline, or interest and other payment penalties may apply.
